Squeezebox question.....

We may have a client for whom a Squeezebox with the xAP connector is an
ideal solution.
However, I need to know one thing.
Is it possible to make the Squeezebox always output at a fixed level,
but capture "volume up / volume down" events from the remote in
the xAP
world and use them to control an external amplifier?
