I suspect they can now offload the blame/reason to Apple for the bulbs
not being 'HomeKit certified' , which will keep customers loyal to the
Hue brand. In fairness the white bulbs are much better priced nowadays.

I'm learning here too but from what I understand you can pair Hue with a
ZigBee system directly e.g. SmartThings but you typically lose some
functionality based on the way that controller supports Hue. Basic
control works but often this impacts things like scenes. There may be
issues on ZigBee mesh routing too as I'm not sure what profiles Hue
bulbs support.

Other things like the Hue switch expect to talk directly to 'bulbs' and
so don't work well when talking to a 'controller'. ST for example seems
to keep losing it's link with a Hue switch. I believe when the Hue
switch talks to the Hue hub it presents itself as a 'bulb' rather than a
'controller' which circumvents this - however ST doesn't yet support
this. I believe the Wink hub may however.

I set up my first ST timed sunset/sunrise control of four Hue lights a
few days ago - using Rule Machine which I heard was supposed to be more
dependable than the inbuilt SmartLights App. All worked well the first
night but since then it has failed more times than it has worked on
various different lights so I'm not impressed. Loads of forum posts
with similar experience, and ST admit there is a problem but haven't so
far remedied it. Possibly due to time outs on the cloud services that
are used. Ho hum.... back to IFTTT for now.

Also Siri seems to have lost all my 'room' control now , claiming there
are no lights found in the named room. This worked previously and I can
still control the lights by name so not sure quite what's gone wrong
there. Glad I'm just playing - rather than trying to use these
offerings. None of the new products seem to work well currently. I'm
not a fan of RF linked devices I'm afraid.
