Neil, Alex, Marc,

Thanks for your prompt responses.
On re-checking it seems I *hadn't* made a connection home as I earlier
thought. The VPN s/w told me the policy was "applied" (or
similar) but no
connection showed up as active on the router page (probably why I couldn't
set up a browser session to a home ip!)

I will double check all settings. The work and home IP ranges are different
(10. and 192.) but no joy as yet.. I may have to try a local wifi hotspot
to see if the work policies are getting in the way...

Alex - how did you specify you connection to go over 443? do you just
append the port number to the target IP?
