Thanks Marcus,

=20

That's a lot of good information there.

=20

I'll have to get them delivered to my parents' home in the UK first as
Amazon don't ship the lights to Indonesia and then get them shipped out
here. I can get the hub and the switch units but no the lamps. Price was =
=A329
from Amazon for the lamps.

=20

The cloud is OK for when I am not at home but I don't like control systems
that rely on it fully as you then need a guaranteed connection for it to
work. My Spark Core modules are a point in fact with this issue.=20

=20

I think I might bite the bullet and order some up.

=20

One question though is in the range. I have some Homepro Z-Wave units and
they are hit and miss a lot of the time in my bedroom. I have a unit
betwee=
n
them as they are supposed to route the signal but this seems to not quite
work. I'd be interested to know if this is how the Wemo units work or do
they need a signal from the hub. That will be a big issue for me living in
an apartment block with the Faraday cage that I seem to be in. For
instance=
,
WiFi in the bedroom is very weak.

=20

Cheers

Funnily enough I just bought one from Amazon on a lightening deal for
=A323=
.
It arrived yesterday and I=92ve had a quick play with it last night. I
have=
it
connected to my coffee machine with a rule setup to turn it on 45mins
befor=
e
I=92m due to get up so that its fully warmed up by the time I=92m
downstair=
s and
ready to make my morning flat white. I used to do this with a simple timer
plug but the WeMo should allow me to manually turn the machine on/off from
the bedroom for those days when my schedule deviates from the norm. It
seems to work very well at the moment, and much quicker than the X10 module
I was playing with plus it has status updates (unlike the AD10 plug) so if
the machine is activated manually the app shows it turned on. Another nice
feature is that it auto configures itself to work over wifi when in the
house and 3G when away from the network. The downside is that it=92s
obviou=
sly
using a Belkin server =93in the cloud=94 to achieve this routing and there
=
is no
option to configure it to be totally under your control i.e. use your own
server/fixed IP/ dyndns etc. I=92d also like to be able to control it via a
simple http get/put so that I could more easily integrate into a larger
automation system. I did find some info on hacking it but haven=92t had a
t=
ime
to investigate further yet;
http://hackaday.com/2013/02/23/wemo-without-a-smartphone/

=20

Next step will be to link it up google calendar to stop the machine turning
on for days that I=92m away from home (Holiday, business etc). I was
lookin=
g
at IFTTT but I=92ve not had time to investigate too much yet. Another
thou=
ght
is to use TASKER (Android) and have it simply work off my phones alarm when
I=92m at home based on it=92s Geo location or connection to my home wifi.

=20

At the rrp of =A350 I think they are probably too expensive but if you can
snag one for around =A323 their great.
