Re: RE: Wireless Access Points?

Hi Phil,

I'm still learning about this but I thought it was the devices that managed
which AP they were connected to rather than the APs deciding which device
they "retain".
I found an updated driver for my laptop's WLAN card which allowed me to
choose how "aggressive" the switching was - whether an AP was
retained
until the very last drop of signal strength remained, or whether it was a
bit more flirtatious and connected to a new AP even if the signal strength
there was only marginally higher...

My wireless network is made up of several "consumer" routers
re-purposed as
access points (i.e. I don't have the Ubiquiti-type products).

Maybe there are some updated drivers for your devices?

HTH,
Tim.

I have a set-up like this, with maybe five access points (including
one in the shed!). However I still get the issue where a device will
hang onto the AP it originally connected to until it drops off the
radar rather than switch to other APs with much stronger signals. I
think there is a more recent 802.11 standard that manages roaming
much better but general APs or routers all seems to have this issue
in my experience.<br>
