Re: CCTV DVRs

Hi Simon,

TBH is was the selection of cameras that first moved me away from the
maplin units, that and Henry's being recommended on here many moons ago :-)
I wanted the cameras to be as discrete as possible, so have gone for white
dome cameras, rather than the "camera on stick" options from
Swann. Having
looked at cameras at Henrys it was then a one-stop-shop to get the DVR,
PSUs, cables etc. all in one box. Apart from the DVR psu failing after
about 15 months (external switch mode one / laptop style, so no big deal to
replace - just annoying...) I've been very happy with the whole system.

Remote access has been reliable, another key issue for the initial
purchase, so would happily recommend the unit I have. The only issue has
been the paging-back through triggers to find footage of interest but I
should look at it when I first think of it and not several days later...

I had a quick search for security issues with my box, after reading Max's
link, but nothing popped up. So maybe nobody's discovered the weaknesses
yet!

Mine cost a bit more than the typical maplin 4-camera system (perhaps 2x?)
but I think I got good value.

HTH,
Tim.
