Sorry, I've just noticed I hadn't replied...

It would give you the opportunity to have a neutral at the switch plate,
but it also gives you a more flexible infrastructure when contemplating
what automation solution to go for. It would cover a basic relay solution,
X10, plus others.
It just seemed a bit limiting to home-run all of the wiring *except* the
switch wires.

Home-run/radial cables for curtains and blinds would seem sensible (mains
and cat5) plus both a mains and cat5 cable to a switch location should
cover most eventualities.

You can download a manual for the slient gliss curtains from this website -
the motors appear to be mains powered.
