Oh, anyone interested in degree days might like a post a friend of
mine wrote about how they correlated to his gas usage:

It doesn't answer the 24/7 heating question but shows how trying
measurements might be. To be able to do measure over a short period (say a
week or two) I think you'd need to take regular readings for inside and
outside temperature (degree days will be too crude), and then try to
normalise the results.
