RE: Gigabit switch fan

I've got a 24 port DLink Gb smart switch that has (or rather, had) a
noisy
fan.

Simply pulled the fan power connector off and currently running without the
lid with, as suggested, an insulated cover over the PSU. Components are
just
warm to the touch.

Suggest you don't use card as that is a fire risk, I've used some thin
plastic from a folder divider (flame tested it first).

Only think I do is periodically check for dust build-up on the heatsinks,
but as it hasn't got an air flow this is minimal .

Is the unit somewhere you can remove the lid? You may need to put some card
over the power supply for safety.
If you cant remove the lid then you will need to experiment with a
temperature probe inside the case with the fan disabled. Most electronics
are fine with an air temp. up to a least 50 degrees (sometimes 70+).

would
be ok to disable the fan, or slow it down to make the noise a bit less
annoying?
