In theory, the shorter the cable and less terminations from the BT
exchange, the better the ADSL signal, so placing the ADSL router at the
master socket does make sense, if your cabling will allow.

I have noticed during the night (when its dark) I see a 3dB reduction on
the SNR on my ADSL line, which caused the line to re sync 10-20% slower
when its dark, than during the day. After some research, it seems its due
to radio waves and the atmosphere change at night, increases the reception,
and the radio waves interfering with the ADSL signal, as the overhead phone
lines act as receiving antenna.
