With Linux, you pretty much just move the disk across and reboot. I've done
this dozens of times and "it just works"(tm)
With Windows, it's far more work. The chances of the machine even booting
are slim, so be prepared to do a Windows repair. After that, it's a lot of
mobo driver re-installation, downloading of all the relevant updates, and
crossing of fingers. You can make life easier by having a disk to hand (of
the right version of Windows, with the right OEM/retail/upgrade level) and
with updates slipstreamed, but it's still no fun.
Then Windows will almost certainly need to be reactivated, which will
hopefully be done online, but sadly it often wants this doing long before
you've had a chance to install mobo drivers, so you have no network. Expect
to have to 'phone "Joe" in Mombai.

Modern OSs use the UUID of the disk, or the superblocks thereon, so don't
really care how it's connected. Whether Windows counts as a modern OS is
open for debate!
