Alternative suggestion ...

I use a clip on temperature sensor (thermistor from Rapid) on the hot pipe
to my shower mixer. I get a pretty rapid rise in temp suitable for
triggering shower light and fan. The temp decays quite rapidly after you
finish showering as well, and you want a bit of run-on on the fan in any
case.

Monitored in my case by an Idratek analogue input module (Cortex has
built-in handling of thermistor calibration curves) and fan and light were
already controlled.

I did buy an inline flow switch, but since I have a combi and it's
sometimes marginal on pressure because of the water softener I decided not
to chance it. The thermistor works a treat.
