Some of what you're asking depends on the type of system you have, e.g.
fully pumped, zoned, gravity fed water / pumped central heating, etc....
There's a variety of solutions, personally I'm a big fan of the HouseHeat
kit (Conrad, ELV, etc) as coupled with my Vaillant Combi Boiler and weather
compensator it's drastically improved our energy usage...
