RE: [OT] SQL Database Hosting

You ideally want the SQL server running on the same host or the same
LAN,
SQL over a WAN is not good for performance unless you have highly optimised
SQL, you'll also blow away your bandwidth allocation quickly in SQL
traffic.

Additionally many hosts restrict the external port access, it is not
uncommon for SQL ports to be blocked by web hosts.

Do you need everything in a single database? Best bet would be to have
several smaller databases 1 for each function (forum, website, blog and so
on) then if there's a corruption you only loose partial site functionality
rather than everything.

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] SQL Database Hosting

Hey Guys,

Anyone know of a very good SQL database host? I currently have a free
database with my website host, but it's only 150Mb and I need to have
more than that as I'm adding forums to my website. The current host will
offer larger databases but at extortionate prices.

So, anyone know of a reliable/fast sql database host?

Many Thanks

Marc
