RE: [OT] Change of Mother board now PC won't boot into XP

Well I have just had another chanced to look at this.

I have swapped the memory stick with another just to cover off that
possibility. I have tried booting without the FDD and DVD/CD and on all
counts it boots to the same point... I get the single beep from the BIOS
then see the BIOS report the processor and IDE with the HD listed (it is
a SATA) it then says verifying DMI Pool Data, the screen goes black and
that is it...

The CPU fan speed does vary, increases slightly as CPU warms as you
would expect...

A friend has suggested it may be a PSU issue, which I can't discount as
I don't have a spare floating around at the moment. In attempt to
further lighten the load I removed the HD power cord and it boots the
same, reports Verifying DMI Pool Data and then reports DISK BOOT
FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

No real surprise there, it does suggest it is reading something from the
HD when powered up though...

Any more suggestions before I go and buy another PSU to discount that
possible problem.

TIA

Nigel

Nigel,

Is the processor seated properly? I once had a very similar problem and
that was the cause.

Regards,

Simon

Hope this is not seen as too far off topic.

My Study PC, ACER with HT2000 motherboard gave up the ghost earlier this
week. Suspect an issue with onboard graphics as on thing I could get out
of it was pretty vertical lines on the monitor.

Bought a Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 from PCWorld as I had a voucher to use...

Installed the board, a couple of small issues, the FDD connector had no
surround so managed to offset plug by one pin, now sorted. The card does
not have an on board speaker and the Front Panel plug / socket was not
as per the original MoBo. Have butchered plug and salvaged a speaker
from a very old PC...

The MoBo goes through POST giving one beep on my very old speaker... I
can also access the BIOS and effect changes OK. I know the DVD/CD is
working because the MoBo comes with a CD with drivers and this can be
seen if I insert it during boot up. However, the machine will not boot
from the original SATA HD (with WinXPpro installed) nor can I boot from
an installation disk for either XP or Vista.

Is there something obvious I need to do? I have RTFM...

Nigel (Puzzled)
