Smart Meters

The recent discussion re smart meters got me thinking (ouch!)

We are about to move house and I notice that the mew place (new build) has
a
smart meter fitted.  The developer is bob-all help so I seek the collective
wisdom of the group and ask: Is there a current domestic supplier I could
use that will utilise this new meter-me-bob and give me back some useful
information from it (say to my computer-me-bob) or is it just to be a
pretty
box at the moment?
