I used ordinary 13A sockets even where I planned table lamps and hence
1.5mm cable.  This gives me the flexibility to swap use later, I am using
relays protected by MCBs.  I think ordinary sockets are cheaper than round
pin too.  A sticker to remind you not to plug anyting other than a lamp in
if it is connected to a dimmer, or reserve round pin for dimmers only.

You can dim CFLs check out Digiflux - not cheap but interesting.

I gave up worrying about the number of cables for the lounge and just
re-routed the cables back to a separate Distribution Point closer to the
lounge than Node0 to which the 7.1 speaker cable also went.  Friends eyes
boggled but it works well and the bundle of cables will be hidden.
