Not quite the same, but my Mythtv box wakes up on a bios timer at 5:00
each morning to do some housekeeping and one of the things it does is
backup some data from my DS207+ to a removable SATA drive on the Mythtv
box using an rsync script.
You could set up a cron job on the DS207 to run your ftp job.
