Re: [OT] xbox 360 video

Alex,

Whether component or VGA is better is dependant on your TV as panels vary.
I've found VGA to be better though on 5 different screens I've used - LG
and Samsung.
You can get a VGA lead for the 360 - there's a choice of MS and Joytech.
I've got both makes, not much between them except MS build quality is
better, but more expensive.
Cheapest option is to buy a scart component adapter for a few quid - but I
suspect the picture quality will be poorer.

BTW, there is a major firmware update for Xbox 360 next week. You might
want to wait and download that before you wrap it up for Christmas.

Regards,

Simon

Thanks, it is the 60Gb version as Argos had it with a free wireless and 3
free kids games.

Is the scart option better than VGA?

I managed to find the user manual on line

The manual says this...

The VGA IN connector allows the following TV and
monitor display modes:
EDTV 640/720 x 480p
720 x 576p
HDTV 1920 x1080i
VGA 640 x 480 60 Hz
SVGA 800 x 600 56 Hz
XGA 1024 x 768 60 Hz
Note:
If possible, use the XGA1024x768@60Hz video mode to
obtain the best image quality for your LCD monitor.

The spec sheet also says this...

Picture
. Screen Size: 30" (76 cm)
. Visible Screen Size: 75 cm (29,53")
. Display : LCD WXGA Active Matrix TFT technology
. Resolution 1280x768 (x3) pixels

Multi media modes
Standard Resolution Refresh rate
VGA 640 x 480 60 Hz
SVGA 800 x 600 56 Hz
XGA 1024 x 768 60 Hz
WXGA 1280 x 768 60 Hz
WXGA 1280 x 720 60, 50 Hz

Connections
. S-Video Y/C (mini-DIN) in
. Video CVBS (cinch) in
. Audio-L/R (cinch) in
. Headphones(3.5mm jack) out
. Euro A/V Connector Ext1 (RGB in, CVBS in/out, I/R)
. Euro A/V Connector Ext2 (RGB in, S-Video in/out,
CVBS in/out,WYSIWYR, Easy and Cinemalink)
. Euro A/V Connector Ext3 ( CVBS in)
. Euro A/V Connector Ext4 ( CVBS in)
. Audio/Video Component Ext5 (cinch 2fh YPbPr and
Audio L/R in)
. Audio L/R out, constant level (cinch)
. Center channel input
. VGA (15pin sub-D)

I never managed to get the 800*600 to work from a PC though.

Any advise appreciated.

I take it you bought a pro/premium as the arcade doesn't include the
component cable?

Best bet with a SD TV is to just get a scart lead off ebay, I got one
recently, 3 or 4 quid iirc.

Cheers, Des.
