I don't use MP3 myself for play back on my Squeezebox. I use FLAC
(Free Lossless Audio Codec) and it does exactly what it says FLAC is
Lossless compared with MP3 which is Lossy. I believe this does make a
difference when played through a decent Hi-Fi.

In summary the SB3 is a CD player with a good quality screen. The SB3
has a good DAC which you would find in high quality CD players. It
can therefore take your lossless ripped CDs and play them at the
original quality.

That is the basics, but then add the high quality VFD screen, and a
backend application that means you can find any song in your
collection. So you start listening to a compilation album and hit a
certain artist, you know they did another song and you can
immediately search, find it and add it to the playlist. You then have
add-ins for album review, bibliography of the artist, cover-art,etc,
etc. It is a perfect example of synergy.

For me it revolutionised and re-invigorated my music listening. I am
still finding new things to do with it.
