RE: [OT]Ground Source Heat Pump running costs

My 200m2 new build looks on target to hit =A31000 for the year and our
GSHP=
is
an 8kW unit feeding UFH on ground & first floor. All controlled by
Sensible
Heat Hometronic system so should be at least 25% less than standard
controls. Our first proper quarterly bill was =A3380 and we don=92t have
an=
y
other fuel except the leccy. This is after going for an Economy 10 tariff
and ensuring my heating is set to only use the cheaper rate periods. Our
lighting is using much more than our old place =96 we have whole house
lighting control (Helvar Digidim) and LV halogen/incandescent lighting in
most rooms so that it can all be dimmed. Our last cottage used low energy
lighting throughout and used less in the entire house than we currently
hav=
e
in our kitchen!

Does your GSHP feed rads or UFH? Have you checked the heat pump controls to
see how many hours the compressor has run to get an idea on how hard it is
working? Are the ground loops operating effectively =96 mine were air
locke=
d
on first installation meaning my unit used the additional heat from
built-i=
n
immersion heaters which could have resulted in much higher bills if I had
not spotted the problem and called back the installers. Have you checked
your controls to ensure you are not heating areas to excessive levels or at
times when you don=92t need heat? Finally have you checked the meter
readin=
gs
are correct and not just catching up because previous bills have been
estimated too low?

If anyone out there has one of these and don't mind sharing the
information could I ask how much quarterly electric bills are?

Just had our first quarters bill of living in a building converted last
year meeting all the latest insulation regs and its just short of a
thousand quid (for a quarter)!

Needless to say I've had a bit of a sense of humour failure.

Cheers
Gary
