RE: [OT] Current recommended disk recovery software (XP) ?

It's not free, but I use Spinrite from http://grc.com with a pretty good
level of success.

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] Current recommended disk recovery software (XP) ?

We had a powercut last night and now one of my (XP MCE) PC's
won't boot. It appears to be a hard disk error , corrupt system /
directory. The IDE drive is visible but the directory wont list.
Fortunately this wasn't a major data loss but there's one particular
file I would like to recover if possible. Anyone got any
recommendations as to the current best file/disk recovery software ? I
think things will have moved on from my W98 based Norton Utilities/Disk
Doctor ;-)

If I can recover the disk to bootable even briefly thatw ould be
even better - as I'll be easily able to move my installed Idratek Cortex
app to another PC ( is locked/licensed to one PC). For the single file
recovery - are there any good but free utils anyone is aware of ? I
know these two aspects are pretty much mutually exclusive.

Cheers Kevin
