I agree that if you are writing your own apps then you may as well
join up.

I'm talking about the xAP users who use YOUR app, they need a server
to push events to your app running on their phones.

I'm assuming that apple won't just let any computer/device connect to
their push server to send messages, although I suppose it could have
some sort of public/private key arrangement.

You still need something to generate the push messages in the first
place though.
