Its purely to do with Microsoft coming up with a new security scheme
for SMB in Vista and then *after* Vista gets out there's a delay while
Apple and the Linux guys develop a compatible implementation - in the
case of the Linux guys probably by having to reverse engineer the
protocol.
BTW Vista suddenly having a new "improved" security algorithm for
SMB/CIFS doesn't magically make Vista more security overall.
