Re: Incoming telephone calls dropped after one ring

Hi Keith,

It seems to be working again now I've dried the area a bit but I take your
point about corrosion - the NTE5 already looks a bit nasty from old
dampness
(what the tanking is supposed to cure). Nice blue copper corrosion on the
bare BT wires etc. Fascinating stuff about the effect on ADSL speeds, I
need
to do a speedtest ...

How much do I need to worry about moisture wicking up (from old dampness)
into the individual cores ... are these are going to rot and breakdown over
time, in which case BT would have to replace this leg anyway - would they
do
that and at their cost or mine and what triggers it ?

If it was dampness in the line elsewhere I assume this would be either at a
joint or if the sheathing is damaged, or does the sheathing go porous over
time ... it's a grey plastic material ? The line goes out, up the wall to a
joint box and across to a post, not sure where it goes after that (well, I
know it goes to an exchange, but not sure whether it's overland or
underground).

In any case, it looks like a new NTE5 is on the cards.

Thanks for the advice...

Cheers

David
