RE: sack of sh**e sky box

Once the seal goes at the LNB and water gets in, it is drawn through
the
cable by capillary action. Not only can that cause problems anywhere along
the length of the cable, but it's feasible that water could find its way
into the box itself.

Paul,

I had exactly the same problem with my Sky HD box last week.

I traced it to two poor/corroded connectors on the LNB. Fortunately I had
previously ran 2 sets of twin cable (I used to have 2 Sky+ boxes) so I
swapped the cables at the Sky HD box. All was OK.
The plastic grommet has fallen away from the LNB so water could get on the
connector. The connectors that were in use (so had a constant voltage on
them) had corroded so had the coaxial centre wire, whereas the unused ones
looked brand new. I wonder if galvanic corrosion occurs on these
connectors
- certainly looked like it.

Regards

Simon
