I spent a few tedious days buildinging a *secure* wireless bridge.
Having read a lot about the so called wireless wds link I found out that
the link can only be encryted to wep due to issues repeating wpa. Also the
bandwidth over the link is halved again due to having to repeat.

In the end I went for ap1 to ap2 wireless client wpa2 aes and with some
fiddling with wwdrt I got ap2 to be on the same network as ap1. With the
bridge complete I can add wired clients to ap2 along with another wwdrt to
act as ap3.

I've used Linksys access points in the past and when used as such it
was fine (I could never get them to work reliably as a wireless bridge
though). IIRC, the antenna are/were removable.

I've also used 3com and that was fine too, although the device I tried
had non-removable antennae. I'm currently using an old Lucent/Orinocco
access point that's capable of being fitted with an external antenna.

All is not lost though with fixed antennas - here's a cheap way to
boost or target your wireless coverage:

I've not been a big fan of Dlink or Belkin, don't know why, just an
irrational fear perhaps, as I've never used those makes.
