[OT] Linux based video wall

well maybe not that off topic.
I have been playing with Synergy at work -
http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
and its brilliant, if you have not
heard of if it is a way to control multiple machines with one keyboard
and mouse, great for servers or if you need to have multiple machines
on at the same time. But of course it left me wanting more.

We have a load of old machines at work with monitors at work and I
would like to create a video wall, it would make a nice resource for
the school and could be a bit of fun (actually I reckon it will be
more pain than fun). Now obviously I know that the monitors are not
perfect and colours and brightness will be off but you have to start
somewhere.

So where too start?

I have thought about single machine with multiple video cards but that
does limit the number of displays. I have a shed load of old Bondi
iMacs as well as PCs so I thought some kind of open source video wall
software using VNC but this I'm sure would require gigabit networks
and the performance would be poor. So my thoughts have turned to a
distributed linux network, I found
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/apps/videowhale.html
which looks
interesting.

So the question is does anyone know of a way of doing this?

Sean
