Sony BDP-S550's - built in LAN and Java!

Hi All,
was out at our local Currys today with SWMBO having a nose, came across
the Sony BDP-S350 - nothing new there you may wonder, but what caught my
eye was a built in 100mb LAN socket and the apparent inclusion of a
'Java' OS...

So, after a bit of digging, found that there is also a BDP-S550 that has
a few more features on it - interestingly Dabs are selling the big
brother cheaper than Currys selling the smaller of the two.

Anyways, being as though these things have a LAN connection and
apparently run on Java, has anyone been able to do (know if you can do)
any automation type tasks, caller id popups, playing from a LAN source
rather than disk etc?

I've had a little rummage and other than these things getting very good
reviews generally, nothing on adding extra 'home-brew' coding for them.

Cheers
Wayne.
