Alarm panel stopped responding

My alarm panel stopped respondinf the other week, it's all still lit
up, but pressing the buttons doesn't get any response, can anyone
think of a reason, and what I might be able to do to rescue it?
It's a old, no-name thing so I can't give you a make & model.
