Rise the bottom half of the circuit board in distilled water.  You
must keep the display as dry as possible as that is the bit most
easily damaged by water.

Don't be tempted to rush the drying. Water creates short-circuits
so the circuit board needs to be thoroughly dry before power-up.
Leave it in the airing cupboard for at least 2 days (preferably 3)
before re-fitting the battery
