Re: BT phone over rj45 structured cabling
I have terminated a CAT5 cable directly into the back of the BT socket
(only 2 wires nessessary) and this is then terminated straight into the
back of my patch panel.
The same terminal at the back of the patch panel is then terminated to
another four patch points (multiple wires into the same terminal) - this
gives the telephone signal at 5 points on the patch panel
All the rooms have RJ45 face plates. If I want to send the telephone to a
certain room, all I need to do is patch one of the phone points to a room
point.
In the room forget all about BT plugs. Just connect a straight RJ11 to RJ11
from the phone into the RJ45 point and you will have telephone.

Subject: [ukha_d] BT phone over rj45 structured cabling
I'm helping a friend shove lots of cat5e and UHF coax under their
floor. The cat5e is there for all sorts of things but will definitely
be used for some 'phone extensions.
There is currently a BT line into the house and an extension socket or
two. I'm guessing we'll need some kind of patch lead to go from a BT
male plug to an RJ45, or maybe terminate the cat5e into the BT socket
and shove an rj45 on the other end. We also have some rj45 plug to BT
socket adaptors.
But how do we handle splitting the phone line to multiple extensions at
the patch panel? And where is a good source of BT plug to rj45 plug
cables? And any good guides regards how to do all this kind of stuff?
Thanks
Ian Oliver
