Re: iPhone Smart Home

Yes and No. There's an internal forum where you can post your thoughts
about anything to do with O2. A few Care advisors are speculating.
But one of my close collegues is working on a project which no one
knows about. She's had to sign an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreemenent) and
so can't tell me what it's about. They're all locked up with all the
other people under NDA, so nothing leaves the room. I'm aware 'go
live' is about 4-6 weeks away and it's something tariff based, because
she's asked me questions on setting up the tariffs etc.. on our
billing systems. It seems to conincidental she asked me about WiFi
when O2 do not have any Wi Fi associated tariffs. So my gut feeling is
that O2 will be tailoring some tariffs specifically for the iPhone.
Again, this is speculation and not based on any firm project delivery.
On the HA front, there's a Marketing team that specialise in emerging
technologies. So knowing me as the geek I am, they've been picking at
my brains abit on Mobile Phone / HA integration. I've been trying to
push services such as SMS a light on or off in the house, but there's
been no real traction. I've also been trialling an SMS response IP
Camera, but the product wasn't that well designed for consumer use.
We're also opening a new HQ within 1-2 years which O2 want to use to
showcase more cutting edge stuff. There's a chance we may get a look
in on Microsoft's Surface technology.
(see http://www.microsoft.com/surface/
if you haven't seen it)
My current project ? I'm sure it's no secret that O2 will be launching
their own branded Broadband, following the purchase of Be*. Don't
worry, I'm equally cynical about the number of Broadband players in
the market, but it's a case of catch up and it also serves as a good
customer retention product. We're likely to differentiate from the
rest by promoting we have the most advanced network with ADSL2, so you
can boost your upload speeds with a small sacrafice in your download
speed. But don't expect full UK coverage on launch.
Exciting times!
O2 Admin - Just in case you're scanning my posts, these are my
personal views and not the view of O2.
