That's give you more accurate sensing if you wanted to tell if the window
is open even a few cm.

How about attaching an iPhone/iPod Touch to the glass? You could use the
accelerometers to measure the window angle to see if it's open, and
perhaps the capacitive touch screen could be used to detect when it's
raining...? :-)
