On the subject of the BT Homesafe, I can tell you the following (bit
wordy maybe, but it should answer all your questions).

BT Homesafe is a BT Retail security and monitoring proposition which
moves the PSTN-only BT Home Monitor concept onto an IP-reporting
primary path, with a fallback to PSTN in the event of IP comms
failure.  BT Homesafe is a unique product as a self-install system,
and is not sold elsewhere.    It comes as a kit, including the main
panel, two PIRs, and door contact, a keyfob, a keypad, and a dummy
bellbox.  All sensors are wireless at 868MHz, and it will support up
to 20 sensors and eight individual users.  The sensor range includes
water, smoke, and CO detectors, individual panic buttons, and the
usual PIRs and door contacts.  A 'real' battery-powered bell box is
also available (unbranded).=20

Of course it reports events to the monitoring platform (provided,
supported, and managed by Intamac), which then alerts up to three
contacts via email, mobile text, and landline call.  Monitoring costs
from =A34.95/month.  It is also possible to combine up to four Linksys
Compact IP cameras (WVC54GC) which are set to record automatically if
an alert occurs, and ftp the images to the server platform.  Images
can then be sent to an MMS-enabled mobile phone.  Live view from the
platform is also available, but the cameras use active-x controls so
not so great for those of us using 'other' OS!  Camera monitoring
costs an additional monthly charge of =A33.00 for any number of cameras
up to the four max.

This is not a Visonic product, and is produced exclusively for BT, to
their spec.  It does not support home automation protocols, unlike the
Home Monitor (we all know it is a Visonic Powermax and therefore
supports X10).  Clearly installation requires a broadband connection,
but this does not have to be provided by BT.  The router must support
port-mapping to enable two-way comms between the system and the
monitoring platform, but this enables instant on/off and other control
functionality from your online account.  The panel also incorporates a
simple web interface for local access and control, but day-to-day
operation is by personal keyfob or keypad.

Finally, the range of alerts that can be generated include:

intrusion
fire
flood
CO detection
panic
emergency
power outage
power restoral
ip connection failure (system reporting via PSTN)
