As per Deans recommendation, I would take a look at the Visonic or the BT
VP1000 (rebadged Visonic+). The BT VP1000 can be self installed in 30mins,
it's a very cost effective reliable wireless solution, and can be easily
integrated in to HA system with rfxcom.
Not sure about 'connected to Police' requirement, but the VP1000 can send
sms/email alerts to up to 3 recipients. You may want to contact Intamac, as
they may have an alternative monitoring solution for the BT VP1000.
You may also want to look at installing a dummy bell box, and some basic
timers to make it look as though you are in when you are out.
