Idranet cable - not recommended

  • Subject: Idranet cable - not recommended

I have just run a test of Idranet over some 3 core and earth cable and
it works!

Idranet has a 6 core structure (2 each for power, data and audio) so I
dropped the audio and connected power and data. The reason being I
really should have run a cat5 cable to a thermometer postion on the
landing while it was more accessible so I can switch to Idratek control
of heating later. Instead of sweating to get it in I wondered if
Idranet would work over the bog standard 3core and earth mains cable.
It's a ~10m run and I connected an LPS and it just worked!

I am not sure I'd recommend using this approach but it illustrates that
it is a fairly robust protocol.

Jon
