The Acoustic Energy Aego M system is excellent - not quite audiophile,
but as
close as I'd expect for something this cheap/discreet.
The main speakers are solid alloy and only measure 68mm x 103mm x 90mm -
tiny.
The sub/power unit is bigger but can be flexibly sited.

The Parasound Z3 sounds good - $299, but guess what, in the UK it's
£280. Ah well.
