There's me being all negative and its just that the cable was buggered.

All I got to do now is find a way of removing the old one from the
bundle at the back of the rack :-) Might just leave it there for fear of
what will stop working when I remove it all :-)

Make sure the VGA cable is properly seated, I've seen this on screens
where the cable is loose and reseating it cures the problem.
