Its RS485 and yes you can buy a rs232 to rs485 convertor and get the
protocol.  I guess you attach the convertor to a pac serial port... However
I think the heatmiser touchscreen may try to master the RS485 bus all the
time - at leats their old MC control did and I had to remove it. 
Alternatively you could do a simple heat on\off by wiring the 12v
connections (A I think) through one or more cbus relays to prevent the UH1
relay from firing. If you need more details let me know.

I've just installed (yesterday) the switchover from Aube thermostats to
the Heatmiser system (with UH1 and Touchscreen). Involved a lot of
rewiring and contactors.

Anyone have any interest in this or photos ? Wonder if the RS484 interface
they have is able to be connected to either Comfort or CBUS ?
