I have enabled Cache and get the performance increase.
I am going to try put a gigabit network card on the machine which I
have been told makes a difference. Anyone have any experience in that?
I moving around files that sometimes 1 to 4gb which can be a pain but
of course I like the redunducy aspect of raid5.

I use Write Thru, cached IO and read head. My strip size is 64k.

Does look like the optimal settings I should have?

until yesterday I didn't realise that I had write caching disabled on
it - enabling this (although less secure in the event of power
failure) increased my performance by 10 times!!!

(whilst not transferring) to see what you're getting. IIRC I'm now
getting 70-80 MB/sec write sequential which is OKish.
