They ae different - they have electronics to muck about with the
voltage
and ampage.

These are dumb device - keith says up to 3 kat5 can be driven from one psu
- and the draw is less than the limit for cat5 without the need to
increase voltages across the wire.

Hence 4 quid as opposed to 30 odd

linksys do a very nice set (although slightly more expensive) too:

(Neither will work with gigabit ethernet though as far as I know :-( )
