As must as I trust X10 for some applications, I would not advise its use as
security protocol :)

What about the VIOM, SOM, NETIOM module or something similar? I don't have
personal experience of any of these, but Im sure others who do may chip in,
and/or look at the reviews on automatedhome.co.uk

I assume you have a Visonic sensor on your Garage door, so you know if its
closed/open?

Also, the sensors have 2 inputs, the inbuilt reed relay and provision for
an
external hardwired input. Rfxcom can treat this as 2 inputs, so you can use
the external input for say a door bell push. Then apply some more logic in
Homeseer, eg if alarm disarmed and door bell pushed, ring bell. If alarm
armed and door bell pushed, ring bell, wait a few seconds and play an mp3
of
a dog barking :)
