Most of the actuators that I have seen are basically the same as TRVs
(and
fit on TRV valve bodies which have a plunger action), using a wax capsule
that is heated via 24V/240V supply. There was one I saw that seemed to have
some kind of modulation of the heating as far as I can tell to get 0-10V
proportional action and there are also some that are mechanical (Danfoss
for
EIB as I recall).

I've got some of the Sauter ones (look identical to Oventrop) but I haven't
had time to put all the wires in yet.

I guess with external control I could modulate the wax heater, but I doubt
it will be worth it on my system/house.
