Thanks Tim, sorry for the delay in replying, I only seem to get about
60% of
the Yahoo messages these days....

I wanted to avoid a 'proper' router, but they're cheap, and would do the
job.  Ideally something like PocketWinc that runs on Symbian or Palm (Nokia
E61s or Treo 650's) would be ideal, as it would mean not having to buy a
pile of PDAs.  Will investigate further....

A router unplugged from the phone line, a PDA and a copy of MiniStumbler ?
(the pocket PC version of NetStumbler from www.netstumbler.-com)

Alternatively there is PocketWinc, a similar thing to MiniStumbler

It's a PDA version of Winc. The above link gives some features but
google has some more :-)
