I've put an ariel on my roof and have had great results, over a mile line
of site using a decent antenna at the other end.

Bought my kit from www.fab-corp.com, note there international shipping may
seem high, but when you contact them it is normally less, and very fast.
I have used them at home and work and they've never let me down.
