I remember carpet being discussed over on the Selfbuild forum a few
months
ago.  Downsides are obviously resistance to dirt/water....assuming you're
putting a car in there, even the most water-proof carpet tiles will start
to
honk after a while, and I know from my (painted) garage floor that a lot of
water comes off the car whilst it drip-dries after rain, and even in the
summer there's the condensate off the aircon.

My garage floor paint came from Screwfix, it's been fine, but the colour
choice is limited, grey or red.

Me too ... I've heard, though, that it can be slippery when new,
especially if shoes are wet, so I was thinking of going for the gritted
variety ... OTOH, I've not found an affordable good-quality source, at
least for the quantity we need (c30m2) ... a colleague has also
suggested carpet as an alternative ...
