RE: Web'n'Walk / Vario II

Chris,

It's a pretty impressive device and I'm glad I bought mine. Keeps all my
ca=
lendar events and notes etc, plus runs TomTom for SatNav (using BlueTooth
G=
PS) and internet access and I use it to control my music playback via
XLobb=
y..=20

Your correct about the internet browsing, the 320x200 screen is a bit
cramp=
ed but it is usable and does provide me with access to the net in places I
=
wouldn't normally have access. Obviously text based sites (WiKi) work
bette=
r than ones with lots of graphical based layout (BBC). I recommend
getting=
Opera and using that as the browser rather than IE, as you can scale the s=
creen as a percentage i.e. set it at 50% and you can get a good overview
of=
web page with graphics then zoom in to read the text..

trying to get a feel for this ... is it toys or is it really useful ? !

eg: 1Gig or 2', how much surfing is that ?

and how well does it work, with such a small screen ?

is it good for Google ... Wiki ... TLC & LinITX 'sites ...
Met.Office=20
radar-map ... 'Telegraph & BBC 'sites ... etc ?

'am tempted, but can't quite see it ...

Following-up on my own post about the Web'n'Walk tariff ... seems I got=20
it slightly wrong. It used to be =A37.50 for standard & =A310 for
'Pro,=20
with no download limits, but as-of 1st Oct' it's now =A37.50 with 1Gig=20
limit & =A312.50 with a 3Gig limit. On a more positive note, the =A31
a=20
day cap on cost is only relevant to PAYG, the Web'n'Walk is totally free=20
once you've paid your =A37.50 ! So for =A322.50 (Flext20+Web'n'Walk) I get=
=20
=A334 of calls (about 170minutes worth) and can surf the net (on the=20
'phone) as much as I want, up to the 1Gig cap.

I just rang T-mobile customer services & they confirmed that the
HSPDA=20
384 uplink service can be had on any of the packages & is completely=20
free. For some reason they only turn it on automatically on Web'n'Walk=20
Pro ... just had it enabled on my =A37.50 package :-)

Map24 is pretty impressive & would be even better if it could track=20
using your GPS. Would be great for walking around a city ... TomTom is=20
pretty rubbish (for walking) because it always snaps you to the nearest=20
road.

Oh ... another cool app' for all you Vario II (or PPC) owners is TenGo

http://free.tengo.net
<http://free.tengo.net>=20

http://free.tengo.net
<http://free.tengo.net>=20

It's a text-entry keyboard sort of app' which works a little like a=20
'phone's predicative text-entry.

I think you meant to say =A312.50 for 2Gig Limit. I agree with you=20
regarding Map24 - GPS integration would be ideal ! Everyone should=20
e-mail them to encourage them to integrate it !
