You mean like the "iMoto" Motorola ROKR phone with iTunes?

It stank.

And then, it slipped below the waves never to be seen again...

Let's be honest here - if Crapple produced a smart phone, it would be
infected with DRM to the hilt, charge you for every single thing it did and
have so many restrictions on how you could use it that it would be
pointless.

The company are just too much into control freakery to produce a good
generic device.

The ROKR is a perfect example - they placed ridiculous restrictions on the
device (like not allowing iTunes to be downloaded over GPRS or GSM - you
could only do it when docked!) and crippled it (it could only store a
hundred tracks, despite having more storage, so that it didn't cannibalise
iPod sales).

I don't see Apple producing a useful general device.
