Re: CAT5 embedded in screed - ok ?
Gareth,
Use some ducting if you can. I have put the same screed into my
house. All done in one day. The guys I had doing it where great but
they did not respect anything that was on the floor below them
(including underfloor heating pipes). They will stand on cables.
Rakes and shovels will pull at them. Even the pipe that the concrete
is piped into the house with is heavy and could easily catch/break
cables.
I have put 5mm steel mesh in the screed and it has cracked upstairs
in less than a year later. Downstairs hasn't cracked as much.
Movement will happen.
Do you have to put insulation down under the screed. This might be a
good place to slot cable. Any first fix piping/ducting went under/
through my insulation. I put 25mm insulation around all the outside
walls to break the cold bridge. This could also be a good place to
put some cables if you really don't want to use ducting.
